How it works
A countdown timer counts down to a specific date and time. It shows the remaining days, hours and minutes, updating in real time without needing to refresh the page. Once the target time passes, the widget displays a message instead.
Common uses:
- Product launches: build anticipation by showing exactly how long until a new product or feature is available
- Event registration: show the deadline for signing up or buying tickets
- Seasonal campaigns: Black Friday, Christmas sales, limited-time offers – countdown timers reinforce urgency
- Application deadlines: university courses, job postings, grant windows – help applicants see exactly how much time is left
Countdown vs countdown-to-date: this countdown timer requires you to set a specific target date and time. The Countdown to Date widget is simpler – just enter a future date and it shows how many days, weeks and months remain, without needing to set a time.
Embedding tip: set the target time to match your visitor's timezone expectation. If your event is at 9am GMT, set that explicitly – the timer will then show the correct countdown for any visitor regardless of their local time.
